Life has given me lemons and I have chosen to make lemonade. After much time and consideration I have chosen to start my own sewing business making handmade bags and original creations.

A Little Owl Crazy
As I mentioned in my previous post my owl loving kid can't get enough owls. Since her birthday is coming up in the next few months I have been busy sewing more owl creations. When I made her bed spread a few years ago I had some left over scraps. They were just enough to make this owl pillow. So now she had an owl pillow for her bed that matches perfectly. It was a really simple pattern and used more of my newly acquired applique skills.

Fun With Appliqués!
My oldest daughter is head over heels in love with owls right now. I'm not sure where her sudden craze came from but it does seem to be all the rage. They are so popular right now that I have found many great projects to try out. I do have to admit they are pretty darn cute!
Some of my latest projects have been discovering new applique techniques. In my past sewing experience I've been a little type A. Sticking to exactly what a pattern directs you to do. It has been very freeing to go out of my comfort zone and try new things. I've found I'm really enjoying appliqueing on outfits for my girls to turn a boring shirt into something fun and original. They really are fairly simple and easy to make. First I found an owl picture and then cut out the pieces of the owl. Then picked out some complementing fabrics and cut out the pieces. Next assemble them on the fabric you will be sewing them on to find out which pieces need to be sown on first. The pieces in the background such as the owl wings and feet were sewn on first then each layer added in succession. To finish it off I added some button eyes and ta da a work of art.

Shoes
My latest craze has been making these sweet little baby shoes. It seems as if our unit at work is always inundated with pregnant coworkers and I can never find a great gift to give them. But after finding some great inspiration online I have come up with these great patterns. It's been fun getting to experiment with different designs and styles. It's also been amazing having time to be able to sew again.

And the Adventure Begins...
After long days and nights and a whole lot of pondering, I've decided to jump in head first and try this new adventure. I learned to sew in the 4th grade starting in 4-H. As the years have gone by my love for anything artistic has grown. My passion for sewing and creating things has never wavered. So it only makes sense for me to use my talent and create things to sell. I'm excited and nervous for this new wonderful adventure! Let the creating begin!
